Call for Presentations
You are invited to submit an application to present during the Florida Charter School Conference. This year's theme is Achieving Excellence through Innovation.
What makes up the program contents?
The conference program contains presentations in the following four content strands relevant to improving Florida's public charter schools:
- Leadership - presentations that focus on administrator and board member activities that contribute to the quality of their charter school and community.
- Community Involvement
- Fundraising and Public Relations
- School Leadership
- School Improvement Plans
- Business - presentations that focus on the business of running a public charter school in Florida.
- Grant Writing
- Professional Development Programs
- School Operations
- Teacher Recruitment and /Retention
- Student Information Systems
- Technology Acquisition
- Authorizing - presentations that focus on the authorization process.
- Legal or Legislative Issues
- Contract Issues
- Instruction - presentations that focus on the implementation or replication of innovative curricular programs and exemplary instructional practices that can be demonstrated to increase student academic achievement and are replicable for classrooms in Florida's public charter schools. Presentation should include the curriculum, a description of the program/practice, strategies for implementation, and data to support effectiveness.

Who can submit an application to present?
Anyone can submit an application to present. If you are a vendor (anyone who provides goods and/or services for a fee, including non-profits and consultants), your organization must partner with a school that is using your company's goods/services and must be exhibiting in order for your application to be considered for inclusion in the program. Presentations that appear to be sales pitches for a specific goods and/or services will not be considered.
When is the deadline to submit?
The deadline to submit is July 26, 2013.
What is the application to present process?
The application consists of four steps. Please complete each step in its entirety.
Step 1: Presentation Information
Include the contact information of the person who is submitting the application. This person will be notified of acceptance status. Include the presentation information - title, description, deliverables, AV needs, etc.
Step 2: Confirm Presentation
This is your chance to make sure the information is correct. This information is used online and in the print program. If not correct, go back and make corrections. When all is correct, proceed to the next step.
Step 3: Presenters
Submit information on ALL presenters. Include yourself if you are submitting the application and presenting.
Step 4: E-mail Confirmation
Once you complete and submit the application, you will receive a confirmation e-mail indicating that your application has been received. If you do not receive a confirmation e-mail, then your application has not been entered in the online system.
When will acceptance of a presentation be known?
Status e-mails will be sent out four weeks after the deadline. If selected, you will have a chance to update your presentation information before it is posted online and used in the printed program. Please make sure the e-mail address submitted is accurate.
What is considered when the application is reviewed?
Applications received through the online process will be reviewed by the Program Committee during August. They will use the following questions when reviewing the application:
- Is the description clear, with adequate detail to understand the presenter's purpose?
- Is the presentation relevant to the conference theme?
- Will the presentation provide valuable information to the target audience?
- Is the presenter qualified to speak on this topic?
- If there are other presentations on a similar topic in this strand, do you consider this one to be the best choice?
What can improve an application to present?
- Be specific when describing your presentation.
- Incorporate the theme in your presentation.
- Include relevant and recent references that are based on authentic research.
- In the 'Deliverables' section of the application, list and briefly describe the benefits to the attendees in terms of the specific knowledge and/or skills being delivered.
- List the professional qualifications of each presenter that would convince attendees of your expertise on this topic.
- Design your presentation to be 45 minutes in length and 15 minutes for Q&A.
